I grew up in Long Island, New York. As a child, I enjoyed my summers on the famous Long Island beaches with my family. In the winter we traveled to Manhattan to study dance, music, singing and drama. My mother was on stage as a young girl and thought my sister and I would benefit from the theatrical culture. My father, (who was a painter) came from Switzerland, and although he was an orphan, he always said he enjoyed his formative years in the orphanage and with his life long friends skiing and hiking in the beautiful Alp Mountains. In his young adult years my dad told me he would go to the Louvre' in Paris and copy the masters, which was his only formal education in painting. As a child, I would watch my father paint oils on canvas, doing carpentry around the house, or we go walking for miles on the L.I. beaches on his days off. My childhood home was filled with his European influence paintings. It was a busy place and I feel I was lucky to have such a diversified childhood, which I shared with my sister. After graduating from an all girls private college in Illinois, I became a flight attendant with Eastern Airlines. I was first based in New York and lived in Manhattan, California and finally was based in Boston and lived in Marblehead, Brookline, Cambridge and Acton. Surprisingly, my career with EAL lasted 20 years. The traveling to foreign countries and the freedom of time off, fun layovers and great benefits was too good to let go. On my days off, (and I had quite a few), I started going to school for graphic design at Mass College of Art on Boston. Then through a very close friend started taking watercolor classes. There I began to realize that my love for art was starting to surface. I then took art, painting and drawing classes at the DeCordova Museum school in Lincoln, MA and continued my love affair with art at the Mass College of Art once again. I also took workshops with various watercolor and oil painters from Provincetown, MA, Maine and Connecticut. I was mostly intrigued with the fact that I never got bored with my art studies. There was always something new and interesting to draw or paint and learn. The museums hold a special interest for me as well, especially the impressionist artist. Im constantly learning when I see their work. The beauty in New England as well as the surrounding states had all the scenery one could ask for. Linked with the fact that there were so many mediums to choose from also enhanced the excitement of the endless reservoir of creativity. I usually shuffle back and forth between watercolor, acrylics, oils, and pencils, never tiring of the different effects and freedom of spontaneity. Sometimes I paint on location and sometimes in my studio from pictures or from what I remembered out in the field. At times I paint from a combination of different sources. Ive sold a number of watercolor, acrylic and oil paintings and my capabilities range from still life, portraits, landscapes, and collage. I still feel my initial awareness and love of painting was from my father. When I traveled as a child through the country he always pointed out the beautiful landscapes, oceans views and sunsets. The colors seem to stay with me the most. Now when I travel with my family, each trip somehow makes a profound influence on my colors and ideas. When I sit down to paint, I never know what the end results will be. I do know however how surprised I am of the results and the passion that somehow engulfs me for those days of dwelling in the world of color and light. I am now displaying my work at the CrossRoads Gallery in Tehachapi, CA 661.822.5242 and at the Out of the Blue Gallery in Cambridge, MA 617.354.5287
